For the past three years Seachtain na Gaeilge has undertaken an interesting and imaginative project - the CDs Snag '05, Ceol '06 and Ceol '07 . Three music compilations with tracks from famous groups such as Bell X1, the Corrs, Mundy, Declan O'Rourke, the Sawdoctors, the Frames some translated from English, others written in our native tongue. It is evident from this that love for the language is spreading among some of Ireland's best known musicians. Irish is not the primary language of most of these acts but they took part because of an interest in our culture. As well as that they have seen Concern's vital and tireless work with some of the world's poorest people and by giving their time free of charge they ensure that all profit goes towards improving standards of education in Mozambique.Seachtain na Gaeilge will be continuing with this project again in 2008 with a new CD Ceol '08 all proceeds from this album will benefit the charity Barnardos. To focus attention on music in Irish, we ask people to buy this CD and to ask radio stations up and down the country to play your favourite songs from it as often as possible. If you have new ideas for the CD and how to improve it please contact ceol@snag.ie. Also, if you feel you can help us in any way by for example spreading the word in your school, youth club or university, don't hesitate to contact us!We hope you enjoy the music.~CEOL %2708|snagcd004|~6639~13632~~
Ceol'07~ceol'07~It is not just Irish speakers who have an interest in the language. For the past two years Seachtain na Gaeilge have undertaken an interesting and imaginative project - the CDs Snag '05 and Ceol '06. Two music compilations with tracks from famous groups such as the Corrs, the Sawdoctors, the Frames some translated from English, others written in our native tongue. It is evident from this that love for the language is spreading among some of Ireland's best known musicians. Irish is not the primary language of most of these acts but they took part because of an interest in our culture. As well as that they have seen Concern's vital and tireless work with some of the world's poorest people and by giving their time free of charge they ensure that all profit goes towards improving standards of education in Mozambique. Seachtain na Gaeilge will be continuing with this project again in 2007 with a new CD -- which will see a lot of new acts among the faces of those on SnaG '05 and Ceol '06.To focus attention on Concern and on music in Irish, we ask people to buy this CD and to ask radio stations up and down the country to play your favourite songs from it as often as possible. If you have new ideas for the CD and how to improve it please contact ceol@snag.ie . Also, if you feel you can help us in any way by for example spreading the word in your school, youth club or university, don't hesitate to contact us!We hope you enjoy the music. There are a few reasons in particular that you should buy this CD:Firstly the music on it rocks! Brilliant musicians have contributed great songs. Every penny in profits will go to CONCERN to help with education in Mozambique (€20,000 was collected in 2005 and we're still counting the amount this year but it's looking good) It will inspire other musicians to write songs in Irish if the CD is popular. And it only costs €19.95 for a double disc. Bargain! ··

Gugalaí Gug- Cd and Book~Gugalaí Gug- Cd and Book~This collection of traditional children’s rhymes from the Irish (Gaelic) tradition consists of a full-colour book and lavishly-produced audio CD. There are 29 tracks on the album: a lively mix of rhymes, a few children’s songs and one piece of virtuoso lilting or traditional mouth music. There’s even a traditional step dancer, lending his exuberant rhythms to the mix!Cnuasach atá ann de rannta traidisiúnta ó Ghaeltacht Chonamara, atá foilsithe i bhfoirm leabhair lándaite agus dlúthdhiosca a bhfuil léiriúchán maisiúil déanta air. Tá deich bpíosa ar fhichead ar fad san áireamh ann, idir rannta, amhrán nó dhó agus dreas portaireacht béil

The project was commissioned by Ealaín na Gaeltachta, the partnership of An Chomhairle Ealaíon, the Irish Arts Council and the Gaeltacht (Irish-speaking region) Development Authority, Údarás na Gaeltachta. Ealaín na Gaeltachta provided funding to support the gathering of the rhymes in the field, the composition of new music to accompany the spoken voices, the arrangement, recording and post-production of the CD. The research, writing, design, artwork and printing of the book was supported by Bord na Leabhar Gaeilge (The Irish [Gaelic] Book Board). Artwork was provided by award-winning illustration and animation studio Cartoon Saloon. Six artists in total contributed images to the book. Performing on the CD are three generations of the Conamara community, ranging in age from four years to seventy something. The full range of the region‚s vocal talent is featured ˆ rhymers, singers, a lilter ˆ almost forty voices in all. Among those included is the actor Tom Sailí Ó Flaithearta, well-known for his portrayal of the elderly bachelor Cóilín in TG4‚s bi-weekly soap, Ros na Rún. Another grown-up voice featured is that of singer and Raidió na Gaeltachta broadcaster Caitlín Ní Chualáin. Her colleague at the radio station Meaití Jó Shéamais, an award winning sean-nós singer, can be heard lilting and playing the uilleann pipes. But the real stars of the production are the local children, drawn from two primary schools, in the Leitir Mealláin and Indreabhán areas, respectively. The first, Scoil an Chnoic, Leitir Mealláin, at the time of recording had nine pupils on the rolls. They‚re all to be heard performing together on one track, „A hAon is a hAon‰. The other school involved is Scoil Sailearna, Indreabhán - in contrast, the biggest primary school in Conamara. The Gugalaí Gug project was instigated by Tadhg Mac Dhonnagáin. He researched and wrote the book, directed the vocal talent in studio and commissioned the artwork. The CD was produced by John Ryan, who also acted as sound engineer, arranger and composer. Gugalaí Gug is the third children’s project Tadhg and John have realised together. ~Gugalaí Gug- Cd and Book|ffcd4|~6639~11196~Gugalaí Gug- Cd and Book~
