A TIME REMEMBERED 1979 THE PAPAL VISIT TO IRELAND~THE PAPAL VISIT TO IRLEAND 1979~"A Time Remembered" is double DVD that will offer people a timely reminder of Pope John Paul the second's historic visit to Ireland in 1979.Previously unavailable on DVD and featuring a digitally re-mastered version of the original one hour documentary, along with extras from the Dublin, Galway and Drogheda masses, this twin DVD set also includes a brand new mini feature presented by Fr. Brian D'Arcy that takes a fresh look back at an event that touched a nation."It's almost impossible to explain to people who either weren't there, or more likely weren't born, the depth of feeling that swept this country in the late summer of 1979 when John Paul the Second visited Ireland…….This wasn't the Ireland of roaring prosperity and Celtic Tigers. This was the 1970's. Ireland was a country with its fair share of problems. And maybe that's the part that's so hard for those that weren't there or weren't born to understand. That sense of anticipation followed by that moment, that explosion, of riotous celebration. It was as much to do with us, us Irish, and our reaction to the world around us, our determination that in what were uncertain times that we would show ourselves capable, in that moment, of an undiluted expression of love and acceptance and hope. We just needed someone to light the touch paper, and that summer he arrived. So for those that were there look back at this and be proud. And for those that weren't here's a chance to glimpse a moment which helped make us what we all are today."

MISE EIRE-SEAN O RIADA- DVD~The film is a historic artistic collaboration: George Morrison's pioneering cinematic work, Sean Ó Riada's innovative music score, and Gael Linn's film-making experience.Ó Riada was commissioned by Gael Linn to write the score for its feature-length film Mise Éire (1959), directed by George Morrisson. The film uses newsreel and contemporary photographs to tell the story of events surrounding the Easter Rising of 1916. Ó Riada’s inspired musical score brought the images to life and instilled them with emotion. It also ensured that what might have otherwise been a minority-interest documentary became, in fact, one of the most widely-acclaimed and appreciated events in Irish film history. Recording of the music for Mise Éire took place at the Phoenix Hall, Dublin, on May 19th 1959, with Ó Riada conducting the Radio Éireann Symphony Orchestra, leader Arthur Nachstern.Musically, Mise Éire is most interesting. Ó Riada draws heavily from the Irish tradition with songs such as Róisín Dubh, Boolavogue and Sliabh na mBan. However, the film refers to many aspects of the historical context and music reflects this. Listeners will hear pieces as varied as the labour anthem (1913 lock-out), the Eton Boat Song (Viceroy Aberdeen at the Horse Show) and Tipperary (conscription). Ó Riada also experimented and several pieces have a distinctly modernist feel (Pearse’s surrender). One of the most significant tracks on the album, Tomás Ághas: Sochraid (funeral of Thomas Ashe, who died in 1917 while on hunger strike in Mountjoy Prison. Mahatma Gandhi was reported to have been influenced by this) has never been released before and is evidence of Ó Riada’s ability to speak sensitively to the heart, without sentimentality. It is one of those pieces of music which, once heard, will never be forgotten. The title track, Mise Éire, instills a tremendous feeling of national pride and is one of the world’s most recognised pieces of Irish music. Mise Éire is one of the most important pieces of Irish music of the twentieth century.~The film is a historic artistic collaboration: George Morrison's pioneering cinematic work, Sean Ó Riada's innovative music score, and Gael Linn's film-making experience.Ó Riada was commissioned by Gael Linn to write the score for its feature-length film Mise Éire (1959), directed by George Morrisson.
