The River Returns~THE RIVER RETURNS- CD~The Shannon River is a silver and black thread that weaves through Johnny Duhan's teenage-into-manhood years in his new album, The River Returning. The songwriter's confused youth is torn between the lure of girls in the harbour's red-light district and the summoning bells of church and steeple. Opting for the downward call of the Sirens, Johnny encounters romantic turbulence and finds himself close to the edge. In time he discovers a deep and lasting love and recalls a sacred resonance from the past. Having kept vigil at the bedside of his dying seafaring father, he fixes on recollections of shared riverside joys and a lust he once felt to embrace life to the full. With a soundscape of uilleann pipes and flutes (Davy Spillane), the river returning freely to the wide ocean is the album's central image, as Johnny explores themes that dominate and perplex us all in the endless cycle of life and death.~The River Returns|BLCD5|~1197~1202~Johnny Duhan~
