A WHISPER IN A RIOT~A WHISPER IN A RIOT~Colm Lynch (27), from Killiney in Dublin has been song writing since his early teens. His interest began within his family home where, as a young teen, Colm picked up his fathers guitar and, coupled with a previously discarded chord book he had found, started piecing together his first songs. Colm has been honing his craft since. Having been in many bands Colm's need to express his musical interests unrestricted led to the beginning his career as a solo performer. His influences range from The Rolling Stones and The Beatles through Dylan, Springsteen and Paul Simon and up to The Smiths among others. His own musical creations would be worthy of comparison with some of his heroes. The website dublinsingersongwriter.com said " Colm Lynch is one of the very few singer-songwriters out there who one can truly expect to be 'the next big thing'". Lyrically, Colm is one of the finest the capital has produced for some time. His lyrics can be sometimes brooding, sometimes uncomfortable and sometimes almost comically dark but never typical or predictable. The fusion of those lyrics with some surprisingly mature melodies adds further evidence that this is no ordinary singer songwriter, no superficial 'sop pop' writer masquerading as something he's not, no follower of musical fashion. Having regularly played in over fifty venues around the country over the last two years to keep body and soul together, Colm has developed a loyal following who keep in touch with his movements via his website colmlynchmusic.com. As well as performing around Ireland Colm has travelled further a field to places like Scandinavia from where again the emails of praise and support kept coming in. More critical acclaim came with his win of the Wicklow Song Contest in 1999 and in 2005 Colm funded the recording and release of an EP which received some scattered airplay and some kind words from those critics who got to hear it. But the lot of the self-financed independent release is not an easy one. However, it was one of his regular performances in the unlikely setting of Roundwood, Co. Wicklow that brought him to the attention of his management and ultimately led to his recording deal with Universal Music's independent affiliate label Xcentury Music and to what may become clichéd in the future as his "big break".
