The Playboy of the Western World - J.M.Synge - 2 CD Set

The Playboy of The Western World originated from a story told to Synge by Pat Dirane, a seanachaí of Inishmann, on the Aran Islands. While the plot maybe simple, the language is not and this proved the biggest challenge in producing Synge's masterpiece for radio.

To succeed in sound, without the benefit of visual images required the craft of actors whose skill would master the poetic language and reproduce the characters that Synge had created and avoid any 'stage oirishness'. But all the actors in the production , led by Pat Kinevane as Christy Mahon and Karen Ardiff as Pegeen Mike , have served Synge's script well.
