Originally released inDecember 1972, “Happy To Meet Sorry To Part” kick-started a new era inthe evolution of Irish music, connecting the traditional elements of the pastwith the progressive rock experimentations of the future. The album not onlyintroduced a new band (and a new kind of band at that) but also an entirely newgenre known as Celtic Rock. Horslips dared to tamper with traditional Irishtunes and instrumentation and in so doing electrified a generation of Irishyouths into frenzied and life-long loyalty. Their legacy, cemented by the 11albums that followed their legendary debut, continues to have a profoundinfluence on those with even a passing interest in Irish music or contemporaryrock or folk or prog for that matter. The year 2012 sees the 40thanniversary of the release of “Happy To Meet Sorry To Part” and to markthis event a special edition CD version of the album is to be released. Thebespoke commissioned pressing replicates the original vinyl release in minutedetail including the impressive concertina shaped cut and multi-page bookletwith all the original artwork.
