This CD celebrates the Ráth Cairn community which effectively transplanted from the western seaboard of Connemara to the fertile midlands in Co. Meath seventy years ago. In 1935, twenty seven families left their homes in south Connemara to settle in Ráth Cairn. Each family was given twenty two acres of land. Of the one hundred and eighty two people who migrated to Ráth Cairn in 1935, one third of them were in their fifties and the oldest man was eighty two years old. There were forty two children under the age of ten years. Today’s vibrant Ráth Cairn community is a fitting testament to them.
This CD features both music and lore, songs, stories and verse. It is a small proportion of the wealth of material in RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta’s archive that has been collected from the Ráth Cairn community over the years and reflects a vibrant and proud community.
Is mar chomóradh ar aistriú pobail ó Chonamara go ceantar Ráth Cairn i gCo. na Mí seachtó bliain ó shoin a d’fhoilsigh RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta an dlúthdhiosca seo.
I 1935 d’aistrigh fiche a seacht teaghlach as deisceart Chonamara go Ráth Cairn. Fuair gach ceann de na teaghlaigh sin suas le dhá acra is fiche. Den céad ochtó a dó duine a tháinig go Ráth Cairn i 1935 bhí an triú cuid acu ós cionn leathchéad bliain d’aois. Bhí an fear ba shine dhá bhliain le cois na ceithre scór. Agus bhí dhá scór gasúr faoi bhun deich mbliana d’aois ina measc freisin. Is mór le rá inniu é a n-oidhreacht.
Tá idir cheol agus sheanchas, amhráin, scéalta agus rannta ar an dlúthdhiosca seo. Níl ann ach blaiseadh den mhéid ollmhór ábhar ó phobal Ráth Cairn atá i gcartlann RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta. Seo bailiúchán ó phobal beo a bhfuil meas acu orthu féin agus ar a bhfuil acu. Fág acu é.
