IRISH TIMES review of “ALONE”
MoscoDisc ***
It's a long time since Eleanor McEvoy bothered the arbiters of taste or trendsetters, which is probably why she has "survived" in an industry that thrives on such notions. Alone wasn't really meant to happen; exactly 12 months ago she released I'd Rather Go Blonde , but earlier this year she had a few days to spare between gigs in the UK, and so found herself in a Norfolk studio with her guitar and a batch of songs that had featured on various albums of hers down though the years. Stripped back, truthful and thought-provoking, this is a good exercise in revisiting old friends. You'll have heard pretty much everything here before (including Harbour, Only a Woman's Heart, For Avoidance of Any Doubt and Did You Tell Him? ), but rarely so elegantly unadorned.
