The return of Bill, Eamon, John and Liam...
2008. Another year. Another summer. Another European Championship, another panel.
In fact this was Bill, Eamon, John and Liam's 12,000th major championship and they show no signs of leaving our TV screens yet, except Liam of course, who already has left. It was a divorce of sorts, as the youngest member of this "manage-a-quartre" packed in his punditry and walked out on studio life.
Either way, after years of life as the chips in a Giles and Dunphy buttie, Liam now finds himself as the Salami in a Trap and Tardelli Panini.
The Championship action got going in June! The tournament started predictably enough. Particularly for Eamon. Ronaldo is rubbish. Germany are rubbish. The Spanish manager is an idiot. A fool. A winner too, by the end of it. But why let the truth inconvenience a convenient argument?
Bill was in fine fettle throughout, bringing his inimitable charm and giant spoon for his good cop routine.
Meanwhile it was the gatecrashers from Sellotanta who had the biggest impact on Euro 2008. Pat Dolan and Paul Dempsey regularly kept us up to date on the letters of each qualifying group. They correctly pointed out that each group had a letter identifying it - namely groups A, B, C, D, E and F.
Andy and Richard "Exclusively Live" Keys also dropped by to show how it shouldn't be done.
Add to that Lorraine Koster, and Karen Keane from our very own Exposé, Frankly speaking, Colm Murray (from RTE television sport) and a cabal of other characters and you've got the ultimate Apres Match Experience... Running Time: 95 Minutes
